GivingTuesday 2026 falls on Tuesday, December 1. If you run a small nonprofit, you have about five weeks to get ready.
Here's a week-by-week checklist that fits around a small team's real workload.
Last year, Americans gave $4.0 billion on GivingTuesday, up 13% on the year before, and 38.1 million people in the U.S. took part, according to GivingTuesday.
That's a lot of generosity in a single day.
It doesn't spread evenly, though. You don't have to be a big organization to do well on GivingTuesday. The small teams that do well usually start early and make giving easy.
A small team can do this without a campaign agency or a big budget. You need a goal, a story, a donation form that works, and a plan.
Here's the plan.
A common reason GivingTuesday campaigns struggle is that they try to do too much.
People give to something they can picture. "Help us reach our annual target" is hard to picture. "Fund 200 winter meals" or "Keep our after-school program open on Fridays" is easy.
Action:
This step is easy to skip, and skipping it can cost you more than anything else on this list.
Every extra click, every slow page, and every payment method you don't accept costs you gifts on the busiest giving day of the year.
Action:
The Better Giving donation form accepts every one of those gift types, with recurring giving built in, and you embed it on your own site. There's no platform fee while the optional donor donation to Better Giving stays on. If you turn that ask off, the fee is 1.5%.
A match gives GivingTuesday donors a clear reason to give on the day itself.
Action:
Thanksgiving week will fill your calendar, so get the writing and the asks done this week.
Three or four emails, sent at the right moments, will do most of the work. Your most loyal supporters can also reach people you can't.
Action:
Every Better Giving account includes Fundraisers at no extra cost, and they work globally, so supporters and donors can take part wherever they live.
This is Thanksgiving week, so keep the work to scheduling, watching, and replying.
Action:
GivingTuesday starts your year-end season, and it starts a relationship with every new donor.
Action:
That last point matters more than it sounds.
A nonprofit with reserves can get through a slow quarter, a late grant, or an emergency without cutting programs. With Better Giving, you can route any share of what you raise into FDIC-insured savings or our professionally managed Sustainability Fund, at no cost. Returns vary, and past performance isn't a guarantee.
GivingTuesday 2026 is Tuesday, December 1. It always falls on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving in the U.S.
Start from your own numbers. Look at what you raised last December and how many people gave, then set a goal a little above that. A goal you hit and can celebrate publicly does more for you than an ambitious one you miss.

There's no platform fee while the optional donor donation to Better Giving stays on your donation form. Donors choose whether to add it, and it's always opt-in and never pre-selected. Better Giving is a 501(c)(3), so that donation is tax-deductible for the donor. If you turn the ask off, the fee is 1.5%. Our pricing page has the details.
Better Giving's donation form takes card, bank, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, stock, DAF, IRA, and crypto gifts, and you add it to your own site with a copy-and-paste snippet.
