Setting a New Standard for Digital Giving

At Better Giving, we believe that technology should always serve as a catalyst for good, never at the expense of the organizations doing the vital work on the ground.

That is why we are proud to fully endorse and champion the new Principles for Ethical Online Fundraising Platforms, recently published by the National Council of Nonprofits and a nationwide coalition of nonprofit associations.

As the digital giving landscape rapidly evolves, these principles provide a crucial framework to protect nonprofit integrity and preserve public trust. For us, aligning with these guidelines isn't just a goal; it is baked into how we build and operate our platform every day.

For example, many platforms allow nonprofits to download lists of donors. But few allow nonprofits to access their recurring donor data or export it and if they do, it is usually at a hefty cost.

And another quick but important example - where many donation processors find it difficult to get anywhere near the 30 day maximum delay for receiving funds, Better Giving aims for a 5 working day maximum between donation being given and it hitting your bank. Donations are in YOUR bank, not ours. And if you do choose to leave the funds with Better Giving, they earn interest YOU receive!

Watch out for an imminent announcement on how we intend to take these principles even further for the benefit of nonprofits worldwide as well as those in the USA.

Considering our mission statement https://lnkd.in/euCVRsuH and the Principles,

Nonprofit Consent: We believe that the power and agency must remain firmly with the organizations themselves. We never solicit or collect donations for a nonprofit without their knowledge, consent, and partnership.

Transparency: Donors deserve total clarity. We ensure that supporters always know exactly where their money is going, how it will be used, and that there are no hidden fees or forced "default tips" altering their intended impact.

Partnership: Nonprofits are not just entities on a list; they are our equal partners. We prioritize building technology that strengthens, rather than disrupts the direct relationship between charities and their donor community.

Accountability: We hold ourselves accountable to the highest standards of the public, regulators, and the social sector, ensuring funds are processed securely, accurately, and delivered promptly.

The future of fundraising must be built on trust and openness. We applaud the National Council of Nonprofits for launching this initiative, and we urge those fellow platforms across the industry that can, to join us in adopting these ethical standards.
