If you ever get to that point where you feel shouting at the radio is no longer enough, then you and I will be friends.I reached that point in March 2021. It took me a while to organise myself, but I founded a charity to help people in New Zealand.  My aim was to find a way of creating a “fund” that could be used to do good, while I went about fundraising and shouting about the causes I wanted to support.  Angel Giving provided the platform and the endowment.   I started with a focus on helping the families of children in NZ get access to Medicalised Ketogenic Therapy. Those that have Refractory Epilepsy do not respond to medication, which means their quality of life is greatly reduced. MKT is proven to be effective in around 66% of people that are not responding to the medicines, but it is not funded in all NZ districts. So I decided I would do something about it.  There are very few families that can get on the treatment, and those that provide it are at capacity. Having helped a family with staying on the treatment and managing the day to day, I am now looking at how we create more capacity in the provision of treatment, and therefore find more families to help.  You can help by donating to DRFXMKT. In February this year the charity was restructured so another cause could be helped, this cause is called HEAT.  What HEAT does is enable families to save for firewood throughout the year, the amount they save gets doubled into firewood.  For example if a family saves $20 a month, that equals $240 at the end of the year and gets doubled to $480 worth of firewood.  This year is our pilot year while we work out how many families we can support and the benefits it provides.  You can help by donating to DRFXHEAT.
