# Better Giving

> Nonprofit fundraising and fund management platform — by a nonprofit, for nonprofits. Accept donations via card, crypto, stocks, DAF, and more. Grow funds with savings and investment options. Free for nonprofits.

Better Giving is a 501(c)(3) public charity (EIN 87-3758939) that provides free donation processing, embeddable fundraising forms, fund management (high-yield savings and investment portfolio), and fiscal sponsorship for international NGOs. 195+ countries, 100+ cryptocurrencies. No platform fee while donors can add an optional contribution; 1.5% when a nonprofit turns that off.

## Agent donations (MCP)

AI agents can give on a donor's behalf. The donor pays on a Stripe-hosted checkout page; Better Giving and the agent never handle card data.

Tools:

- `find_nonprofit`: find a nonprofit on Better Giving by name or 9-digit US EIN; only nonprofits whose name matches come back, with `match` set to `exact`, `close` (confirm with the donor) or `none`; IRS-listed charities not yet on Better Giving come back with an onboarding link instead; each listed nonprofit carries its own preset amounts (`increments`)
- `quote_donation`: price a one-time USD gift with an optional 10%, 15%, or 20% Better Giving tip and optional card-fee coverage; returns a signed quote token, and `increment_label` when the amount is one of the nonprofit's labeled increments
- `donate`: open (or reopen) the Stripe-hosted checkout for an unchanged quote token and the donor's name and email
- `donation_status`: read a donation's status and amounts, without donor details

Donation amounts: each `increments` label is written by the nonprofit itself. Offer those amounts as the options, plus a custom amount; an increment with an empty label is offered as the amount alone. Offer generic amounts plus a custom amount only when the list is empty, and never invent what an amount achieves.

Authentication: optional. Send `Authorization: Bearer <agent token>` if Better Giving issued you one.

Limits:

- One-time donations in USD only, minimum 2 USD, at most two decimal places
- Quotes expire one hour after they are issued; request a new quote after that
- 5 new donations per rolling hour per agent token (per client address for anonymous calls), and 5 per hour per donor email; calling `donate` again with the same quote reuses its donation and does not count again
- IRS directory lookups by `find_nonprofit` are capped at 20 per 10 minutes per token or client address

- "Donate $25 to Doctors Without Borders on Better Giving and send me the checkout link."
- "Give $100 through Better Giving to the nonprofit with EIN 12-3456789."
- "Donate $50 to my local food bank on Better Giving, cover the card fee, and skip the tip."

Nonprofit profile pages and campaign pages carry schema.org JSON-LD: each nonprofit is an NGO with a DonateAction, and each campaign is a Project that carries a DonateAction while it takes donations.
